NSW: Hopes of finding missing boy alive remote - police

SYDNEY, Dec 18 AAP - Police leading the search for missing NSW toddler Joedan Andrewstoday said the chances of finding the boy alive were very remote.

The two-year-old has been missing from his Dareton home in southwestern NSW since Sunday.

Dareton police Acting Inspector Peter Rooney said the search for the boy was continuing, but hopes of finding him alive were fading.

"We believe now the chances of finding him alive would be very remote," he said.

Around 30 volunteers from the State Emergency Service, Rural Fire Service and the localcommunity were searching south of the area where the boy went missing from his home onthe outskirts of Dareton.

SES volunteers in boats searched a stretch of the Murray River yesterday but foundno trace of Joedan.

Insp Rooney said most of the vacant land in the area had been searched either on footor from the air.

Today's search would be extended to include old quarries in the area.

Joedan is described as being of Aboriginal appearance with fair hair.
