Fed: Ruddock denies punishment underway at Woomera

Immigration Minister PHILIP RUDDOCK says asylum seekers at South Australia's the Woomeradetention centre won't be punished by the centre's mamagement for weekend unrest whichled to a mass breakout.

Howver, about 30 asylum seekers will appear before the Adelaide Magistrates Court todaycharged with escaping over Easter.

Another 14 remain at large, and authorities now fear for their safety in the hot outbackconditions.

Mr RUDDOCK's denied reports that some detainees at Woomera are being punished by managementwith a range of measures including solitary confinement and handcuffing.

He's told ABC radio there are no punishment measures at Woomera -- other than restraintsused to prevent people suiciding or attempting self-harm.
